Ben Roethlisberger: It’s Not All About Football
When you hear the name, Ben Roethlisberger, the first thing that comes to mind is the great Pittsburg Steelers quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger’s life centered around sports. In high school, he played baseball, basketball, and football. He attended Miami of Ohio and was a three-year starting quarterback. In 2004, Roethlisberger was the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
He was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and won 74 of his first 100 home games. During his 15-year career, Ben Roethlisberger led the Steelers to two Superbowl victories. He was named to the Pro Bowl six times and led the NFL in passing twice.
Though he had a great career, he wants to be remembered for more than being a football quarterback. He wants to be thought of as a man of faith and a great family man. He has made it his mission to care for and nurture his family. To help others do the same, he, his wife, and the rest of his family have formed the Roethlisberger Family Foundation.
The foundation helps families to bond, especially fathers and sons. Roethlisberger has a close connection to his father and a great love for the outdoors. He believes those two elements are missing in today’s society and wants to do something about it. Ben Roethlisberger bought a farm a mile from his house and opened a retreat center. Fathers and sons can enjoy fishing, horseback riding, fellowship and more.
Ben and his wife also support the NeoLight. It is a company that provides jaundice products to hospitals and care facilities. Parents can borrow the lights and treat their babies at home instead of in the hospital. Ben was also part of the Light of Life Rescue Mission, which provides meals to those in need.
