Gino Pozzo

Gino Pozzo was born to passionate football enthusiasts. His father, Giampaolo, a former football player and coach, bought the rights to Udinese Calcio Football Club, and his mother, Elisabetta, was once a club manager. Gino took over as Chairman of Watford F.C., which he bought along with his father and brother. In less than five years under Pozzo’s leadership, Watford FC has had remarkable success both on and off the field.

The family sold their woodworking business and decided to invest in football. During their first attempt to purchase Udinese Calcio, they failed due to a lack of capital. Undeterred, the family acquired Granada CF from the Pozzo family in southern Spain. The Pozzos’ goal was to turn Granada CF into a top-flight side within five years. They achieved this goal and then became the only team in La Liga never to be relegated.

  1. The Family Mastermind

In 2012, the Pozzo’s were ready to enter the English football scene. They were attracted to Watford by its large fan base and ultra-modern stadium. The Pozzo’s purchased 75% of the club for £200 million. Gino Pozzo served as President from his father, Giampaolo’s, position. The eldest son, Gianluca, became Director of Football and was responsible for all footballing matters. The middle son, Roberto, was made a chief executive officer.

  1. The Watford Club

Watford FC is based in Hertfordshire and has been owned by the Pozzo family since 2012. It was founded in 1881, and its home ground is Vicarage Road Stadium. The club’s most successful period was the 1980s, when it was a mainstay of the First Division. They are currently part of the English Premier League under new ownership since 2012.
