Richard Liu Founder And Chairman Of China E-commerce Firm

Richard Liu is the founder and chairman of the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba. Liu has been recognized as China’s top entrepreneur and one of Asia’s most powerful business tycoons by Fortune. In 2007 he was selected by “The Economist” as one of the world’s top 20 young global leaders.

Richard Liu has greatly contributed to the economic development of China and his company, Alibaba which is currently a publicly traded company has millions of active users. He gained international celebrity recognition in a very short period due to his entrepreneurial spirit and his willingness to take risks. Liu Qiangdong attended the University of Science and Technology of China in Beijing, China where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemical engineering. He went on and obtained his Master of Science degree in computer science from Stanford University in 1992. In 1993 he founded one of the first Chinese Internet companies called and produced e-commerce software which was then distributed on CD-ROMs by Lucent Technologies and Compaq Computer Corporation. He also received an honorary doctorate from Tsinghua University where they also created a namesake professorship, The Richard Liu Tsinghua Entrepreneur Chair Professor, in his honor.
