ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, IMMIGRATION, LEGAL IMMIGRATION

NumbersUSA

NumbersUSA is an American non-profit organization founded by Roy Beck, which advocates for stricter immigration policies and reducing overall immigration levels.

The organization consists of a grassroots network of over 800,000 members across the United States who carry out NumbersUSA’s goal to “end illegal immigration, reduce legal immigration to a level that is more in line with historical norms and allow room for annually needed legal immigrants.”.

NumbersUSA was founded in 1996 by Roy Beck and Texas businessman Bruce Chapman as NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation (NUES). The name changed to its present form in 2000 when it became affiliated with the larger NumbersUSA project led by Roy Beck.

Beck also runs Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (ASHAS), which opposes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) efforts to relax automobile safety standards. He has stated that automobiles are safer than at any time in their history and that NHTSA is pushing prescription drugs instead of safety improvements.

In 2009, Beck created a group in the British Parliament with the title, Stop The War Coalition. This group opposed Western military interventions around the world, including in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya. According to Beck, he was very pleased that “Britain’s official opposition party” had an office greeting him as though he were a United Nations ambassador. He compared the cuddly reception he received from the Labor Party with the hostile treatment he received from its conservative counterpart. In December 2009, Beck was arrested at Heathrow Airport as he attempted to travel to Libya on a US diplomatic passport. He was invited to address a crowd of around 50 along with Libyan officials, and gave a radio interview about his experiences upon his return.

In March 2010, Beck organized the International Day of Action Against Austerity for Democracy in Europe at the UN building in New York City where participants protested against cuts in social programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The protest was supported by Beck’s group Numbers USA. According to an article in Mother Jones magazine Beck believes that U.S. population growth and immigration are major contributors to global warming.
